Time For A Wyoming Thanksgiving
What, 5 to 15 degrees F below zero here. I live in the foothills. With 10 to 20 degrees below zero in the valley where I work. And 30 to 35 below zero in the basins to the west! Well, that’s thanksgiving in Wyoming. And that’s not too bad. Before global warming we’d see this kind of weather a month earlier. No kidding!
The bees are on their own now. Keeping fed and warm is a focus much closer to home.
I enjoy making and lighting beeswax candles this time of year.
154 PM MST SUN NOV 21 2010 ...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES IN EFFECT LATER TODAY THROUGH TONIGHT FOR PARTS OF WEST CENTRAL WYOMING... THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR WESTERN AND CENTRAL WYOMING. .DAY ONE...THIS EVENING AND TONIGHT ANOTHER WEATHER SYSTEM IS MOVING INTO SOUTHWEST WYOMING AND WILL PUSH SNOW EAST OF THE CONTINENTAL DIVIDE BY THIS EVENING. ALTHOUGH NOT WIDESPREAD...SOME AREAS WILL HAVE INCREASING SNOWFALL BY THIS EVENING AND IT COULD BECOME HEAVY AT TIMES. THIS WILL RESULT IN SNOWFALL AMOUNTS OF 5 TO 9 INCHES IN THE WESTERN MOUNTAINS... INCLUDING THE TETON AND WIND RIVER MOUNTAINS. THE LOWER ELEVATIONS OF EASTERN SWEETWATER AND JOHNSON COUNTIES ARE LIKELY TO GET 2 TO 4 INCHES IN SPOTS. AREAS OF SNOW ARE ALSO LIKELY EAST OF THE DIVIDE FROM LANDER TO CASPER. IN ADDITION TO THE SNOW...WEST WINDS WILL INCREASE BY THIS EVENING ESPECIALLY IN THE MOUNTAINS AND ALONG THE INTERSTATE 80 CORRIDOR THROUGH SWEETWATER COUNTY. AREAS OF BLOWING SNOW WILL WORSEN ROAD CONDITIONS ACROSS THE WEST AS WELL AS REDUCE VISIBILITIES THIS EVENING AND TONIGHT. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...MONDAY THROUGH SATURDAY ANOTHER WINTER STORM WILL AFFECT THE AREA LATE MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT...RESULTING IN SIGNIFICANT SNOWFALL ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE AREA...ESPECIALLY WEST OF THE DIVIDE. A VERY COLD AIRMASS WILL SETTLE ACROSS THE AREA EARLY NEXT WEEK...WITH HIGHS OF SINGLE DIGITS AND TEENS SPREADING SOUTH FROM NORTHERN WYOMING INTO CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN WYOMING TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY...WITH THIS ARCTIC AIRMASS REMAINING ENTRENCHED IN THE NORTH CENTRAL BASINS THROUGH THE END OF THE WEEK. OVERNIGHT LOWS BY WEDNESDAY NIGHT COULD EASILY REACH 5 TO 15 DEGREES BELOW ZERO ACROSS THE SOUTH HALF OF THE AREA WITH AT LEAST 10 TO 20 DEGREES BELOW ZERO IN THE NORTH. THE COLDER VALLEYS IN NORTHWEST WYOMING MAY SEE 30 TO 35 DEGREES BELOW ZERO THANKSGIVING MORNING.
